Tiffany is put in charge of her grandmother's fortune telling booth, which leads to an unexpected chain of events. She meets a boy named Trevor, who seems to know something he's not sharing. And when she runs off in pursuit of Trevor, she finds that she possesses another paranormal talent in addition to fortune telling...
This is a short story, but it seems like it was pulled out of a larger work, like it was either a sequel (or a "1.5 in a series" type of deal) or the first chapters of a new series. If it was continuing a series and was playing off what readers already knew from the first book, it would be great. If it was the beginning of a new series and had another 200+ pages to explain the characters and their connections, it would also be great. But standing alone, it's kind of confusing and frustrating, since it's not really a finished story and it ends right when the action starts picking up.
That being said, "Cat Calls" really piqued my interest in the author and her work. It looks like the author hasn't developed "Cat Calls" past a short story, which is a shame - I want to know how the rest of it plays out! But she does have another series called Tantalize that looks like it focuses on vampires, which I will be checking out. So even though as a short story "Cat Calls" left me a little unsatisfied, I'm still giving it 3 stars because the writing style got me interested in the author and her other works.
